Hey all,

To make a long story short, I deleted my Win XP account name that
I used most often. After that i had to log into safe mode, create a
new admin account to access my computer again, blah blah... Anyway, I
am back, all data is there, but since I had to create a new user
profile, all of my settings (look of windows, some program settings,
etc) have all reverted back to default.

Now, i wanted to know if there is a way to access the old/deleted
user profile and either 1) restore it, or 2) copy the settings to my
current profile. I am not sure if there is a folder hanging out
somewhere with the old settings that i can just transfer to the new
name... etc... I really appreciate you help. You can respond here,
or even better, email me at (e-mail address removed)

Thanks again,

Matt

Matt,

This is probably possible, the big question depends on
whether the users NTUSER.DAT file is still in existence.

Go to the Documents and Settings folder, and see if the
User still has a folder in there?

If they do have a look to see if the hidden
file "NTUSER.DAT" is still their, if it is, that is
basically your User Profile registry fragement.

So what you could so (this could be tricky either way),
is create a new user account (another one) and login and
out of it.

Now log back into you new Admin account, and go back to
the Documents and Settings folder. Now copy the
NTUSER.dat file from the deleted account into the folder
which now exists for the new account.

This should override the ntuser.dat in the new account.

What you should then try is log out, and log in as that
new account we just created. In theory most of you old
settings are restored.

Hope this helps
