Hi Jim,
If you just reinstalled and did not format, then it may just be a matter of
making the files visible. Please note also that if the files were encrypted,
recovery will require the original encryption certificate or a recovery
agent created in the original installation.
Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
You may also need to "take ownership" of the old files. Right-click the
folder, select properties. Go to the security tab and click advanced. You
can take control of the folders on the owner tab. For the security tab to
appear in a WinXP Pro system, you must disable simple file sharing in the
control panel/folder options/view tab. For a WinXP Home system, you must
restart in safe mode and logon as administrator. More details here:
