recover product key directly from CD

Is there a way to get the product key from the installation CD.
I know there are a number of programs that pull it from the registry
but none of them mention being able to get it from the CD.

Thanks. I was afraid it might be something like that. This person lost the
case for the CD and the drive that it was previously installed was wiped.
Any way to get a key or is it just a coaster now? Would Ms be of any help?

No. The Product Key is not stored on the CD in any way, shape, or form.

Not my machine, but I made it clear to the user that they were
quite lucky and emphasized the fact that they should make sure
that they kept the code in a safe place. What can you expect?
