I had created a new page, with text in it, on Microsoft Front Page. I didn't
save it. My computer froze and I had to restart it. How do I recover the
page, which does not have a name, because I never saved it in the first place?

If you never saved it, you can't recover it.

What version of FrontPage??

If 2000 or 2002 look here by copying and pasting this into start run and clicking OK

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temp\FrontPageTempDir

If 2003 look here:

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir

If the file is there it will have a funky name and a .tmp extension

Open it in Notepad

Open a new page in FrontPage, switch to code view and delete everything that shows

Copy and paste the code from Notepad into your new empty page.

Save the new page.

Thanks for the response. The file isn't there. =( Do you have any idea why it
might not be there? I have the 2002 version of FrontPage. Was it because I
never saved the file in the first place and I had to reboot the computer?

Thanks again.

Probably. If the file has not been saved previously there's a good
possibility FP simply stored the document in memory until saved.
Unfortunately, I don't know of any web design applications that have a
document recovery feature and save copies automatically like Word does. If
it's not in these directories then it'smost likely gone when the computer
was rebooted and the memory was cleared.

Hope this helps,

Do you recommend downloading any file recovery programs from online, like
Smart Undelete or the other downloads that I've found on Google? Or is it
likely these download programs wouldn't be able to recover the file?

Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't, just consider the file as gone.
You'll spend more time looking for it than it will take you to recreate it.

Also, something to remember: FrontPage does *not* use the recycle bin when you delete files.
So if you ever delete a file from your website in FrontPage, make sure it's the correct one.
That said, don't use Windows Explorer to delete them either, because FrontPage
needs to know they are deleted

FrontPage has to operate this way because you can't recycle files across "domains."
This is an "operating system" limitation.

The thing is, if you never saved the file, there's nothing to recover, is there?

Alright. Thanks for all your help. I'll consider the file as gone (*sob*).

I really appreciate the time you guys took to respond.
