When you reloaded the system you may have overwritten some of the data, but if you are lucky most is still there. Boot from a CD and dump the contents of the disc to CD. Then use a recovery program like active@undelete.
Good luck..

By the way, what kind of registry scan did you do that crashed the whole system; have you tried to repair the software?

you should be able to recover some of the data but only with some specialist and expensive software, the people to get i contact with are disklabs and ask for a quote

As Pensionada said, you may well have overwritten your files by reloading software. There are a couple of free programmes you can use to try to recover your pics. Try "PC Inspector File Recovery" available from the PC World magazine download site. I also have a freebie programme which I'm more than happy to send on, but you use it at your own risk
Ideally the recovery programme should be loaded onto another machine and your hard drive attached as a slave and then scanned, but I appreciate that this would be difficult to arrange.
Have you tried any of your local computer shops who may be willing to see if they can help - for a fee of course!

Cofused,
Try downloading UBCD for Windows (http://www.ubcd4win.com/) or XPLiveCD (http://www.xplivecd.com/) and use some of the tools. I managed recently to offload all the data out of a hopelessly crashed system with it. I could copy all the data from the original folders to a USB-memory stick. It took a couple of passes because of the amount of data, but it worked. Then, I just formatted the disc and made a new installation.
Good luck
Rob

Confused. Sorry, but I wouldn't consider doing this by remote control. It sounds as though you have nothing to loose by trying some of the software mentioned. At the end of the day, it depends on how much you value the missing data I guess.
If you live in or around the Somerset (UK) area mail me and I'll see what I can do to help.

Pensionada, I might be wrong, but just dumping the contents of the hard drive onto cd probably wouldn't work because all you would be doing is copying the current files wouldn't you, whereas you really need to be working with the original disk to get to any "overwritten" data?

That's what I did, but what I suggested for "Confused" is using some of the tools that are offered by UBCD4; see http://www.ubcd4win.com/contents.htm under the recovery heading.
