Records are corrupt in BE-database

I have an application, FE and BE with 250 new records each day and 5 users
on the net.
Very often when I receive their backend-database, records look like this

1225 d????? ????? 42172476 where the ? are graphical signs

When it happend they loose contact with the BE and they have to compress the
database and start all over.
They often loose information because records are deleted.
I know that Access isn't good at handling records with locking and so on.
Is there any way to resolve this problem
The machines are set up as standard when Office is installed concerning
Options Advanced.

Hum, I had some clients running ms-access applications for 3, or 4 years. We
are talking anywhere from 3 to about 10 users. Some of the applications have
about 50, or more tables, but the tables are quite small (only about 50,000
records in the largest tables..which is very small for ms-access).

In fact, this client has NEVER experienced a corruption. I have even other
sites with higher volumes, and higher loads..and again NEVER have they had a
corruption (about 5+ years).

In fact, to date, the only corruption I had is access 2000 user in SINGLE
mode!

So, ms-access is quite reliable. Popular accounting systems like Simply
Accounting use the mdb (ms-access) JET data engine. I don't see any common
posts about how un-reliable simply accounting is. And, my experience from my
many clients bears this out.

So, what this means is ms-access is rather reliable with the proper setup. I
going to have to assume that something is not quite right with your setup.

You need to check a few things:

First, you are placing the front end on each pc..right? (you cannot reliably
run a system with multiple users in the same front end).

Your front ends are also a mde..right?

Just doing the above will likely eliminate about 90% of problems. For more
things to check, and be aware of..check out the following stuff at super
Tony's site:

The only major corruption problems that I had was related to my LAN. I had
several Win2000 machines accessing a backend on a Win98 machine... a big
poorly documented mistake! Check the quality of your LAN and of your OS's...

Al
