Recording problem...

Hi all, not strictly MovieMaker but......

Dell Dimension XPS-T700r, 512 MB RAM, XP Pro. SP1
Belkin *USB Videobus2*

Using the above, I have no problem whatsoever recording TV (PAL here in the
UK) to HDD with MM2.

However, when I try to use *PowerVCR* it will not work!
(unless I select *Video only*, and of course I get no audio with this
setting.)

When I go to *Volume Control/Properties/Recording* The drop down box gives
me the choice of *Creative Soundblaster PCI* or *BelkinUSB Videobus2*

Clicking on *Creative Soundblaster PCI* I get the choice of:

Stereo Mix
Aux Volume
Video Volume
Mic Volume
Line In
CD Audio
(I've tried them all! Obviously I can only have one ticked at a time)

However, when I choose *BelkinUSB Videobus2*, it shows no choices available
_at all_, and here I think, may be my problem...
How can I fix this?
Line in is my prefered input, but anything that works will do!

It may not be relevant, but when I go to *Volume
Control/Properties/Playback, everything except *Wave* is muted.
This may be normal behaviour...*

If any of you can shed some light, I'm sorely in need of a glimmer or two!!

Hi there,

Your problem is that you are asking this question in the wrong newsgroup

Hi there,

Well, I guess one that deals with your software. I just did a check and
there is not a news group that has "PowerVCR"

Yes, thanks, but I had looked myself...
in its title (Case does not matter)

Yes, I was aware of that :-)
It is often usual to find that the manufacturer of the software
will have a forum on their own website. The following link may be of
use......

http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/cs/support/index_tech.jsp

Thanks, but I have been there _many_ times and never managed to find either
a forum or constructive help.
As for communicating with Cyberlink, the least said about _that_, the
better!
Let me just say it is not the most gratifying experience in my life. :-((((
I have been trying to sort this problem for a month now, and my patience is
wearing somewhat thin...

This ng is close to my last resort, rather tnan my first, so if anybody
would care to re-read my original post, _and offer some assistance_ I would
be most grateful.

TIA

Hi again,

I did a search of all the web based forums for you and came up with this
link

http://forums.techguy.org/t99350/s79f6a2a4c85cc5b9c8109450eeecc49f.html

Somewhere on that forum is a discussion about PowerVCD. There is a search
system in the forum. This might be of use...we all know how these things
can lead us up blind alleys, give it a bash. BTW, I am not saying its the
only web based forum, but after several minutes of search the flow had
dropped right down and was getting a relevancy score down towards zero (I
usually find if its less than 90 then its probably no good)

Thanks for that...off for a look in a minute!

PS
I would think that most people already know the meaning of *plagiarism*
Your point? (In other words, did I say something???)
:-)

Hi there,

Pleased to be of help.

I would think that most people already know the meaning of *plagiarism*
Your point? (In other words, did I say something???)

No No, its just one of the little phrases I add to the end of my Sig

OK John, I just installed it ok.
BUT - I now have a huge problem!
I literally can't read a darn thing with those colours!
<Yes I have an eye problem:-( >
Is there a way to change the skin or something?

Oh hell,

I am so sorry about that. It is the major problem I have with all such
program styles......The Skin approach. There are no replacement skins as far
as I know for MovieXone. There is one for MovieDV (which would not work
anyway for you) and I could not release that....they asked me not too.

That is real bad luck.

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

Hi again John,

I eventually found *Skins* in the menu, but it only comes with the one!!!
Sods law strikes again.
Pity, because it looks like a good program.
My eyes just cannot cope with those colours!
Black on mauve FFS!
(ARMD = Age Related Macular Degeneration is the problem)
I have similar problems with some magazines, where they seem more intent on
making it look pretty rather than legible!
You know, faint orange print on a light grey background or whatever.

BTW, It seems the author withdrew the freebie version of MovieXone for some
reason :-((

If anyone has a more readable skin for it...yes please!

I understand completely. The company that initially created the software
went belly up some time ago. AIST bought the rights to the software at that
time. Although they now have a new release (MovieDV 6) they have done little
with the old stuff

I know exactly what you mean. My Mother has something similar.

The version you had from me was released on a cover DVD disc a couple of
months back here in the UK (PC Utilities)

Sorry it did not work out.

Don't be sorry, it was just one of those things.
However, I don't give up that easy... :-)
If nobody comes up with another skin, I'll just have to increase the font
size to *giant* <g>

take care...
