Recording music from the line in jack

Does anyone know how to do this with Windows Media Player? If not any suggestions would be great. A friend was able to do it in the past with pre-loaded software on an older computer. I get sound from the speakers but can't find a way to record it. Thanks...........Jason

You cause Audacity, a free audio editor. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
you can also use CDex, a free audio converter and ripper.
