I am trying to convert my home movies to DVD, but the
program tells me it is not on or is not connected thru
the i.link, but it is plugged into the A/V ports. How do
I get past this or make the program recognize the ports?

No VCR yet comes with firewire. They're analog devices and they need analog
capture hardware. Ditto for analog camcorders.

If you have movies on a digital camcorder with a firewire port, then you can
do digital capture through a firewire cable straight into MovieMaker2.

If your analog device is connected to a graphics card with VIVO capability
(video in and video out), or to an analog capture card, then the required
hardware will have come with the required software in order for you to
capture from the analog device (the vcr).

If all you have is a tv out port on your graphics card, then look at what it
is called... tv out. Not tv-in. It works one way ONLY.

You'll have to check your hardware to see what you really do have on your
PC.

Cari,
I'm trying to do the same thing, but I already have the
analog capture hardware and the capture setup software.
(It's a "Studio 400" video editing suite. You set it up
VIDEO OUT from the VCR to VIDEO IN on the
capture/compression box, then use a USB from that box to
the printer port on your computer.)

My problem is that I reinstalled this software (from
www.pinnaclesys.com...no longer supported there!) on my
desktop (and laptop) AFTER upgrading to XP.

Quaoar (from this board) suggested I see if this software
will run in Compatibility Mode 98 (my old OS), but it
won't even do that. I still get the error message:

"Studio 400.exe--Entry Point Not Found:
The procedure entry point ThunkConnect32 could not be
located in the dynamic link library KERNAL32.dll."

Now I know that I could upgrade Studio 400 to Studio 8,
and that Studio 8 runs on both Win 98 and XP, but I also
have to have Studio 400 running for the upgrade to work,
right? (And right now, I can't even get it to open
because of that "ThunkConnect32" error.)

Any clue what's going on?

Thanks for the help,
Rebecca

Normally you do not have to have the previous version installed when you
upgrade any software.

What it will do is look for the previous version's software on the hard
drive... when it doesn't find it, it will ask where it is. You simply swap
CDs and point the installer to the old CD. It looks at it and it will
confirm that you do indeed have a previous version. You swap CDs back and
the installation of the new version will continue.
