Recording a time

I would like to record the actual time when a value is placed into a cell A1, eg(NOW() formula) but when I place a value into another cell A3, on the same row the time changes to the actual current time overriding the original time that I required. Even if I could keep both times that values were placed into there cells (A1 and A3) this would be of a advantage
