Recording a clip and looping

I understand that in Win98 and 2000 that you can open a music file in WMP,
cue to whatever point you want, pause the player, open Sound Recorder, record
the section of music you want, and save it as it's own file. Correct?
Why does this not work in XP?
All I am trying to do is put a looped beat on the background of a website
that is on a cd.

I have never tried the procedure you described, and do not know if XP has
that capability. But, with the below program you can trim music files and
have
the leftovers repeat to create a loop. Take a look. Maybe someone has tried
other procedures and may post an answer. Good luck. :~)
