Dave

I have Windows XP SP2 and I have a Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel
(USB). When I go to click on the recorder tab, I get this error
message: An exception occurred while trying to run "Shell32.dll,
Control_RunDLL joy.cpl"

I have been all over the web looking for answers to fix this and I
really need help

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

If you're using the software CD for Windows 2000/XP (not Windows 98)
then the most likely cause for this issue would be the user account:

Let's try a couple of things to get that working for you again:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Log in with an account you've created as a "Computer Administrator"
account that you'll use to play the game, but don't use a Limited account.

Should I still boot it up in safe mode???? If I should, then should I
uninstall the wheel and then when in safe mode install it again??

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

What about the software version?

| Jimmy, I checked my user accounts and I AM listed as the Computer

Hi Dave,

Yes, lets give Safe Mode a try. If that fails, try the solutions here:

Jimmy, I found some time to do it tonight, and safe mode worked!!!
Thank you so much for all your help!

One last thing tho: My force feedback doesn't work on one of my games
(F1-2002), it never did, but do you know if there is a way to correct
that problem??

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Might want to check for a patch for F1 to see if that's a known
issue which has been corrected, otherwise, now that the device
is functioning properly, I hesitate to risk that for just one game.
