I've seen other threads on this board, but nothing helpful in solving the
topic in question. My CD burner is working just fine, as I burned some
things using Easy CD Creator prior to using Movie Maker. After creating a
project in MM, it would not allow me to use the Save Movie File nor the Save
to CD options. Is there a work around for this? Please be very detailed in
your answer if there is one. Thank you.

Hello there,

The answer you require is in the Movie Maker Help File, it comes with
the program.

Basically Movie Maker is only designed to do one thing with a CD burner,
and that is to create a HighMat Video CD. If you are trying to do anything
else with your burner it will fail. Movie Maker has a very limited toolkit
when it comes to CD's.

If you want to transfer files to a CD you must first create those files
on your hard drive and then transfer the files to a cd with your CD
software.

Try the following:

1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
2. Right-click the CD-ROM drive or the DVD-ROM drive, and then click
Properties.
3. On the Recording tab, click to select the Enable CD recording on this
drive check box, and then click OK.

Hi John,

Thank you for your answer. I was able to burn the HighMat Video CD, but
unfortunately the CD wasn't able to play on my DVD player. What is the
difference between the HighMat Video CD versus VCD? I created a VCD using
Plus! Photo Story and it was able to play on the DVD.

Regards,
Marie

Hello,

Highmat video can be played on your computer but not on any dvd player
you currently own. The quality of HighMat is probably better than vcd and
VCD is roughly equal to VHS. HighMat is a standard controlled by Microsoft
and is their backdoor into the video entertainment industry.

There seems little point, to me at least, in buying a new domestic dvd
player (when they eventually become available) if you own a DVD burner...
DVD is a higher quality and will play on any dvd player you are likely to
own, or any friend owns to whom you want to send your DVD disk to.

I'm suddenly experiencing exactly the same problem, in
spite of having everything working fine a few weeks ago.
I would like to reinstall MM2 but on the Microsoft site I
can now only download v2.1 which requires installation of
SP2. I'm not ready to install SP2 just yet - how do I get
MM version 2 again? Any help would be much appreciated!

Why do you think is it so important to you. It would have made only a
HighMat Video CD which does not play in any standalone DVD player.

If it is just for storage then just make the movie and save it on hard disk.
use your CD burner software to burn from the hard disk.
