Is there any F/W that can record telephone calls using the modem. I use
Outlook and use it to dial contacts but would like to be able to record some
calls.
Can anyone help?

Make sure you check the laws of the country/state in which you reside. In many countries it is
a federal offence to record telephone conversations unless the other party is clearly notified
at the start of the conversation that is being recorded (unless approved by law enforcement
authorities of course).

Thanks for the information. I am in the UK and not aware of this problem
but I will certainly take your advice and mention to callers the call is
recorded, it I can get the software to record them that is.
Thanks

This comes up every 4-6 months on this group, you can search google
groups for more information. Here's the short version...

Using the modem to record can work, in theory, but in my experience it
is often unsatisfactory. Recordings are very noisy when made through
the modem.

I suggest instead recording to your sound card from your telephone.
You will need some sort of adapter that plugs into the phone
(typically into the handset plug) and also plugs into your sound card
(normally the line-in plug). You can purchase such devices
inexpensively at office supply stores, electronics stores such as
RadioShack, etc. They are often used to connect a telephone to a tape
recorder (like a micro-cassette recorder), so they are not limited to
computer stores.

Once you have the sound getting to your sound card, you can use any of
the freeware sound recording and playback programs. If you need this,
see http://www.pricelessware.com

Be aware that depending on where you are located and where the person
you are speaking with is located, it may be illegal to record the
conversation, or you may be required to get permission from everyone
who participates in the conversation.

If you need to make transcriptions from your recordings, look into
ExpressScribe at http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/.

If you have more specific questions, post again ...

Thanks Terry for the information.
I will have a look around Tandy (Radio Shack`s trading name in the UK). The
reason I would like to record some calls is because I have to log
information from callers and would like a way to check I have all the
details.
Many thanks again
