record lock prob w/ reports

I have a multi-user setup, with a properly designed (I
assume) front-end/back-end. Multi-user data entry works
fine, and the database defaults to record-level locking.
The problem is that certain reports and read-only forms
cannot be opened by multiple users simultaneously. The
problem does not seem to affect all forms. The error they
receive is:
'The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the
file ". Is is already opened exclusively by another user,
or you need permission to view its data.'
I've searched the KB extensively, but cannot find
references to this specific symptom. All users have the
most current Jet service pack installed. None of the
users know how to invoke "Open Exclusive."
The db was created w/ Access2000, and is being used by
users w/ both 2000 & 2003.

This can happen if you are using fields other than indexed fields for
conditions on your reports and forms. When you do that, Access has to
perform a table scan and it locks up records. Look at your indexes to see
if you can resolve this.
