Record in 16:9?

If I'm recording a video source with MMC that is from a HDTV 16:9 ratio,
input via S-Video, it records as 4:3 with black bars on the top and bottom.
Is there a way to actually record it (for playback via any software) without
those black bars in a 16:9 format?

If it's coming through an S-video connector, it's downconverted to
standard def 4:3.
Get an HDTV Wonder (ATSC OTA only) or DVICO Fusion (ATSC and QAM cable)
to record HD. There are others as well. My HDTV Wonder is recording
right now in HD 16:9.

Sorry... what I meant to say is that I'm not trying to record in HD,
downsampling is fine. Is just the way it's recording that I want to
automatically remove the black bard during recording. I have an X850XT and
am using the s-video input.

I thought came to mind, but is there other software other then MMC that will
automatically remove the black boarders during recording?

Ok, what you need to do is right click on the video display select the
Aspect Ratio menu > Letterbox > 16:9 or whichever crops the video best.
The cropping should happen with the recording.

If what I said doesn't make sense or it doesen't work, then perhaps you
need to update to a newer MMC (9.08 here)

Just FYI, the other menu, Wide Screen, will squeeze the video signal
instead of cropping it.

I'll try it when I get home. I think I did before, and visually it looks
good while playing/recording, but when you played back that recorded file
with any program... the black bars are there.

Got it. I had to turn on "Record Cropped Video" and that did it.
