Record direct to mp3 from long wav, detect silence ?

I have one long concert (wav format), it has gaps of 2 seconds between
tracks already. I want to be able to play it and record 'direct to mp3' with
some software. But i want the software to be able to note the gaps between
tracks and create a new file whenever this happens so i'll be left with a
series of mp3 files already split and just ready to rename.

Is there any such freeware easy to understand ?

Track splitting is one of the "freeware" functions in Wave repair.

Then take your pick from the available LAME frontends, to encode the
results to MP3.

Advalame - which picked up and ran from RazorLame.

You will also need to locate a good version of LAME, such as the
HydrogenAudio recommended (and tweaked) 3.90.3 or the current 3.96,
and should probably forget custom settings and encode to preset
standard (or preset extreme, if you want to trade larger filesize for
fewer deviations from "original" quality)

If it already exists as a digital WAV file, you DO NOT want to subject
it to additional analog play/record losses.
