I would like to know how to go about recording audio from a line in source on MM2 and be able to designate the length of the recording. There was a easy feature in MM1 that just had a record button that brings up a screen with options; can't find in MM2. or where can I download the old version of MM? thanks.

Hi Eric,

There's no easy way to do this in MM2 without recording video as well. If
you launch the capture wizard you'll be able to capture video and audio, and
you can select to capture from the audio line you want. Later on in the
capture wizard you'll be able to limit the amount of time you capture for.

The workaround below may be easier if you don't have analog video device
(such as a TV tuner or web cam) attached to your computer.

1. Make sure you have a clear timeline
2. Drag an audio clip to the audio track on the timeline x mins in to the
timeline, where x is the amount of time you want to record for
3. Open narration in Movie Maker by clicking the Tools menu, and then
'Narrate Timeline...'
4. Click 'show more options'
5. Set the audio device and audio input source appropriately for the device
and line you want to use
6. Check the 'Limit narrtion to available free space on Audio/Music track'
7. Make sure the input level is correct, and not clipping (i.e. going into
the red too much)
8. Make sure the playhead on the timeline is at 0:00:00.00
9. Click Start narration to begin recording, the recording will
automatically stop when it reaches the audio clip you placed on the audio
track.
10. You will see a file save as dialog, save the file where you want to, and
you're done.
