Trying to record video and audio from standard 8mm Camcorder (Analog). I can
record the video but am unable to record the audio.
Using Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2.
On Composite 2.

Do you know if you can purchase a two prong cable ( video and audio) with a
firewire connector on the other end that may work? I have a firewire
connection already on my computer.

Thanks for the Help!

There are no cables like that.... you need to use some sort of capture
device such as those in the Analog Video Capture section of www.papajohn.org
or use a digital camcorder connected to the computer via firewire that can
convert the video to Digital Video from a connected analog camcorder.

I wish you could, it would make life easier for many people but
unfortunately Papajohn's correct. :-(

I had someone else's analog camera with wedding video on it, so I bought a
Dazzle device at Best Buy. One side of it connects directly into the USB
port...on the other side are the connections to the camera. I used s-video
for the video connection, and a Y audio cable for the audio. Everything was
fine but at first I couldnt get it to work...until I figured out the 'audio'
connection was not 'aux' not 'stereo' not 'line in' or any of the
others...but it was the last choice MICROPHONE. I still don't get that, but
everything worked great and I captured about 4 hours of footage with Movie
Maker. The camera took vid of the ceremony from a tripod in the
balcony....one of the better parts of my movie is when I took the 15 minutes
before the ceremony and sped it up to a 3.5 minute movie....watching the
movements of all the people (and one kid falling down!) is completely
fascinating....glad I thought of it.... ha ha ha

Doesn't Dazzle make one that connects via firewire?
I don't use one myself but I'm sure I've seen them.
If you can get one that connects to firewire you will be much better off.

Wojo,I didn't know, but I checked to see if they did have a firewire model.
They have 3 models but they are all for high speed USB conversion. I got
the middle model for about $80 and the Dazzle150 sells for about $130.
There are tons of complaints in the reviews that I just read, but I chalk
that up to newbies who have no idea what they are working with. It works
just fine....it converted all my stuff accurately; both audio and video. It
converts video up to DVD quality, but of course, this analog video wasn't
that good and is a step or two below the quality of my Sony MiniDV. But I
wanted the film for some scenes and especially the sound. I wasn't thinking
about sound being better from a distance than right under the loud
speakers... ha ha However, I did have a voice recorder and lapel mike in
place which I used to great success in Movie Maker too. Pinnacle, however,
did bundle their stOOpid software with the Dazzle....I didn't like it, so I
used Movie Maker with no problem at all. In the reviews I read there were
complaints about having to use only Pinnacle Studio9 but thats not true at
all.

Intervideo's WinDVD Creator came with my computer. I have a Media Center PC
with XP Media. I can import from my camcorder using composite video cables
and the RCA ports that are on the front of my PC. I can't do this simple
function with Movie Maker and can't figure out why. Intervideo has a free
trail on it's web site.
