I'm trying to restore my cat5 connection to my router instead of the Netgear
router. (my thinking is the CAT5 connection will be faster)

I'm using windows 200 professional.

When I go into control panel I select "Network and Dial-up Connections" Both
of the following say they are enabled:

NETGEAR WG311v2 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter
Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection

When I disable "Netgear" which is my wireless router I get no connection at
all to either my home network or the internet.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong.

Oh, I did check the cat5 cable and it seems to be fine.

Just because you have a physical connection, doesn't mean you have a
logical one. What is the IP address of the interface on the computer
that connects to the router? What is the IP address of the router? Can
you ping the router's near interface? How about the other one? What is
the result of a tracert to the router's public interface and something
on the other side of it?

Open a cmd window and type the following:

ipconfig /all > c:\myconfig.txt
route print >> c:\myconfig.txt

then open the file c:\myconfig.txt, copy and paste the contents into
your next post.

There's your problem:
-------------------------------------------------------
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Cable Disconnected
-------------------------------------------------------

You need to figure out why your wired NIC reports the cable being
disconnected. If it still doesn't work after you resolve that issue,
follow the same procedure and post the results again.
