Hi, my brother ordered a Dell M1210 wireless notebook w/ ABG wireless NIC,,
he has a Dell PC w/ XP Pro and a home theater w/ XP PRO
& and cable Internet connection. He wants to set up a wireless network.
His house contains a lot of concrete and he reports "fairly ok wireless
phone reception in the house. Off the top I'm thinking "N" protocol which
I believe is backwards compatible to "G."
Configuration: XP Pro PC in home/office hardwired to router, home PC "N"
NIC & M1210 notebook uses "G" protocol assuming "N" is backward compatible
to "G" What do you think of this configuration?\

Which router do you recommend he purchase?

Should I post this message anyplace else?

Mike

You can set up access points along with the main router to extend the
range. The AP's can act as a wireless repeater for areas where the
signal is lost over the distance, you just need power where you locate
them. Ideally, if you can run a cat-5 run to the ap, then you can
extend the network from there with better results and use it in ad-hoc
mode vs. as a repeater.

Thanks, I'll pass on your suggestions.
