I got burned on the I/O magic CD/RW, I still got scars on my wallet from
that one.

Any recomendations on DVD-R/RW (internal) drives?

Hi,

Rather than say Plextor or Pioneer go to the website below and read
hundreds of reader reviews about what they like.
You'll also get excellent details about each drive's capabilities and
shortcomings.

By the way, I would recommend either the Plextors or Pioneers but it's
probably more supportive if you read other saying the same thing. They like
Sony as well, but I've had less experience with their make so prefer the
first two.

What was the problem? They rebox various drives so you can get a
halfway cheapo decent one or one thats not so hot, poorly supported.

I bought one - a I/O magic over the Xmas sales $4.99 after rebate.
I have two backups which are unopened, a free after rebate khypermedia
which is probably a BTC , cheapo but works for me. I have another one
running in my second PC and a backup Liteon boxed as a Buslink I got
months ago as a replacement for my main liteon which Im using.

Depends on the speed you want.
Even the 8x are falling in price now.

Obviously - Pioneer but Ive seen good pots on the NEC and Liteon.
Probably the best chanceif you are patient and really look is a rebate
deal on a Liteon in another box but you really have to be savvy to do
that. Other than that you can do a search for Liteon 8x and NEC 8x
both probably are fairly cheap now.

You can probably get a 4x NEC, Liteon or Pioneer for even cheaper now.
Ive got the NEC 4x and have had no problems and it burns almost
anything. The one exception being the white vinyl top cheapo Compusa
labeled DVDs - which are always on sale. It burns the Compusa cheapo
silver tops perfectly and other cheap media and all the major branded
media OK. The white vinyls werea disaster though. I havent installed
the latest firmware though 1.09 - I have 1.08 so that may have fixed
that problem.
