Recommended updates cause problems?

I have just recently installed WinXP Home on my computer. I have been
downloading and installing the critical updates from Windows Update site.
All installed and have caused no problems.
However, after getting all the critical updates, I have been getting some of
the XP recommended updates from Windows Update site. The most recent were 2
updates that I installed that it seems that one or both have caused some
problem with my system, causing slow performance, slow menus and such. Also
typing this email is hesitant in showing letters typed.
I have of course shut my computer down and restarted it several times since
the last 2 updates.
The updates are 'KB810243' & '327979' which neither one is listed in
"Add-Remove" software items.
How can I determine which update caused this, and how can I undo the
updates? Remove them? How?
Comments welcome.
Thanks,
John

Hi,
With Xp its relatively easy. All you have to do is use
the "System Restore" facility to go back to a previous
setting.
You should of course set a "recovey point" before
installing anything, but if your XP is new you may not
have figured that out yet.

To use "Recovery Point" ----Start---Help & Support----
Undo Changes to to your computer with System Restore...
You also use that route to set System Recovery Points.

Thanks for your reply,
System restore was going to be my next step. Probably should have done it
before I went to the trouble of finding the recent updates in the Update
Catalog, downloading them, then reinstalling them. First one that I
reinstalled had no effect but when I reinstalled the other one (327979),
things seem to be working fine now. I guess I got a bad install of one of
the updates.
System restore would surely have been quicker. If I see that things are
slowing down again, I will do a Restore.
I will only download updates one at a time in the future.
Thanks,
John
