I am setting up a network for a small office, and want to
get a host computer up and running for the internet
connection. I will be ordering this computer in the near
future, but was wondering if the internet connection
sharing and firewall are dependent upon RAM, processor
speed, ect. I have looked into servers, but am thinking
that may be an overkill for the 5 computers that this
computer will be hosting. Any recommendations are much
appreciated.

Internet connection sharing and firewalling will put a negligible load
on any new computer. Broadband routers perform those same functions
with extremely slow processors and tiny memories. For example, my SMC
Barricade router has a 40 MHz CPU and less than 1 MB of memory. A
typical new computer will run at least 50 times faster and have at
least 128 times as much memory.

In fact, I recommend buying a broadband router for your purpose
instead of using a computer.
