Please could I have some recommendations, based on actual experience,
for a good FTP program which I can use to upload/manage file transfer to
my website.

Up till now I have used the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard. I feel I
am ready to move on to something a bit more sophisticated.

TIA.

I've used Core FTP Lite and it is very good product:

About a year ago I needed a FTP program which could work through very
tightly closed firewall to get my website updated. I had tried many
applications with no luck. Finally I tried Core FTP Lite and everything
started to work fine.

Filezilla (currently 2.29)

An open source package described as follows;
"FileZilla is a powerful FTP-client for Windows 9x, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP.
It has been designed for ease of use and with support for as many features
as possible, while still being fast and reliable."

WS_FTP LE

WS_FTP LE

Not freeware:

==============================

Q: Why has WS_FTP LE been replaced?
A: There are two main reasons behind this decision. First, WS_FTP LE is
an older product and was designed to work with earlier versions of
Windows. As Microsoft releases new operating systems, WS_FTP LE becomes
less reliable. Second, users of WS_FTP LE were clamoring for an updated
interface, new features and the option of a Service Agreement (for
product updates and technical support). The decision was made to create
the new Ipswitch WS_FTP Home rather than update WS_FTP LE.

Q: Is WS_FTP Home a free FTP client?
A: No, but neither was WS_FTP LE. Ipswitch made WS_FTP LE available free
of charge for educational users at degree-earning institutions only.
However, WS_FTP Home is available as a free thirty day evaluation.

Suggest you download and try them all as I did. Mostly use Filezilla -
works a treat,

FlashPeak's BlazeFTP is easy to use and it is freeware. I've used it about
2 years.

I might give that one a try, a bit prettier than Filezilla, and tabbed
multi-server. Last update was last year though, while FileZilla is
under active development (and creeping slowly to V3).

Mind you, one reason I picked Filezilla, was that I liked the
open-source solution since it would be impossible to impose irritating
flash screens or any other interference
