What do you think should I stay with my Kaspersky personal pro 4.5 or
upgrade to the newer Personal 5? 4.5 has features that 5 does not like
script checker, Office guard etc. but the newer version is always the
newer version like in the cars.

So far as I can tell, even version 3.5 (and also KAVDOS32) has the
same detection capabilities as the later versions. You could try to
verify this with Kaspersky, of course.

You are comparing 2 different products. The 4.5 Personal Pro and 5.0
Personal. The Pro version costs a lot more. So you have to decide if you
really need office guard and inspector. I have also heard rumors that the
Pro version is scheduled for an update in 6 months or so.

5.0 does have a script checker. And, it is much lighter on resources. And
has fewer compatibility issues. Give it a 1 month free trial and see if you
like it. What do you have to lose?

It is valuable Finnish summertime I am loosing with all this computer
hobby, I should be out enjoying the few warm summer days :-)

Yes, I was going to test it but I wanted to ask here first if it is
worth it at all. The resource issue is important because my machine is
becoming somewhat underpowered. Nod32 that I have been trying too is
very light but I don't trust it as much as I trust KAV (despite what
VB100 says).

why?

Maybe just a feeling. KAV seems always dig a little deeper in all
archives and packed exe's etc. Nod32 has not failed once and it
detected a new virus mailed to me (maybe Blaster I don't remember)
heuristically 3 hours before Kaspersky got the definition update out.

My Nod32 trial time is ending and so is KAV 4.5 subscription and KAV5
has just been released. That is why I am so confused...

Jari, have you ever considered the use of Antidote? :

You can have the benefit of on-demand scanning by the powerful KAV
engine for free at the sacrifice of no clean/delete capability. It's
updated weekly (on Friday), and it's a 4 meg download.

Seems interesting... I think I will give it a try.
My computing is some kind of journey of exploration, I like to try new
things and boldly go where no nerd has gone before!
