Recommendations for Brother Drum unit DR7000 in UK, please?

I have a Brother HL1850 printer - and used Brother drums which have been
refurbished by Cartridge World. They have both now got to a point where
they report 'clean fuser wire' about every other time I use them. The
usage is fairly light these days but I value the duplex feature.

It's time for a new drum. A few years ago I bought a cheap one - Xenia
make and after I'd replaced it; just threw it away because both original
and replacement produced shadow images.

So can anyone please recommend from experience a compatible NEW[1] drum
available in the UK - I've seen prices from £20 to the cheapest genuine
Brother price of around £85.

[1] If it works OK, I'll get it refurbed when its time is up.

Thanks

Mike

Just wondering, is it possible there is a wire that requires cleaning,
rather than a new drum required?

Some older laser printers and photocopiers have high voltage wires which
do pick up toner and require cleaning with a special brush, usually
provided.

Thanks for your observations, Arthur.

Yes, that is what I clean (according to the instructions) each time. I
get a couple of prints and then the warning message again!

That's the reason I'm asking...

They showed me to the seats marked "reserved",
I said they'd got it wrong;
I should be in those marked "exuberant"

What toner cartridges are you using? Although I am not familiar
with your printer many toner cartridges have a "used toner"
compartment to collect surplus toner. It is usually plenty big
enough to last the life of the cartridge but if it is refilled a
few times it can fill up. After that the surplus toner has nowhere
to go to. I'd try a new (OEM or compatible) cartridge.

Good thought, thanks - I'll try it!

You may want to know that the toner (case) itself may be reused over and
over and over, but the ROLLER may need to be replaced after it's been
rolling for so many rolls.

Thanks for that, too. I had forgotten - and that could contribute to
other drum problems.

This has been a public information announcement.
Thank you for, er, listening.

The DR7000 drum is arguably the simplest drum unit to rebuild and to get
refurbed units that are poor quality almost has to be poor workmanship
either in the manufacure of the drum or the refurbishment of the unit.
The toner cartridge that matches this drum unit does not have a waste toner
compartment, waste toner is put back into the main toner hopper. When
the toner
cartridge is nearly out of toner you may see a light gray haze on the page,
this is beacuse of the waste toner having become too high a proportion of the
remaining toner. Refurbishing the toner cartridge absolutely requires the
remaining toner to be removed, just topping up the toner will result in a poor
page yield and possibly poor quality immediately following refilling. The main
roller in the toner cartridge will last for many refills, 10 or more.
In my experience the message requiring frequent drum cleaning is always fixed
with a new or properly refurbished drum unit.
I'm not sure this will help but I thought you may be interested.

Tony, thanks. That is helpful *and* interesting!

Because I've been using a refurbished drum which has only given around
7000 copies, I wondered if anyone could recommend a supply source.
