Can you recommend the best downloadable virus checker and system
protector software that costs $80 U.S. or less? My criteria are that it
balance system performance impairment with thoroughness in virus/trojan
blocking.

I have Win XP Pro SP2 on a P4 1.8 GHz with a 40-gig hard drive. I may
get a bigger slave HD some time early next year.
