I'm pretty new to the CD-R-burning scene, and I've been burning my MP3s to
CD-R quite a bit. I've been keeping my files listed in a text file, but I
wonder if there's not some better way to do this, some program. Any
suggestions?

That's the way I've been doing it. I use a felt tip marker to label the CD,
and then list out the tunes in any of several kinds of text files. That
group of tunes is keyed to the CD

There are lots of MP3 database programs, search Google. Another way is to
make a CSV list and load that into a spreadsheet program. MP3Lister is good
for making the CSV file...

I backup all my MP3s, software and videos on CDs. I use Cathy to keep
track of them. It is SUPER fast!!!

An extremly small, very fast and easy to use media cataloging tool. You
can use it to index files stored on removable media (CD-ROMs, LS120,
Iomega Zip and Jaz disks, or even diskettes), hard disks or net drives,
and create searchable catalogs that can be used without having access to
original media. Searching capabilities are based on file name, date and
size. Additional features include filtering options, search duplicates or
singles, customizable date format, etc. Found files can be opened
(executed) or deleted directly, if they are present. Drag&drop support.
Directory trees, MP3 album/song lists can be printed, disk space usage
can be investigated. Single file executable, no install needed.

Another option is MPEG Audio Collection. Like Cathy, it works with CDs,
though I've personally used it only for files on my hard disk. It's not
as fast or small as Cathy, but it gives more MP3-specific tools:

MPEG Audio Collection (MAC) OS: Win9x/NT/ME/2000/XP

MPEG Audio Collection is designed to organize your audio file collection.
It is fast and easy to use, scans selected drives for supported audio
files and lists them in an Explorer-style tree-view interface. You can
retrieve all information about your audio collection and you can play
files in their associated application as well. Additional features
include ID3 tag editing, support for CD collections, .col files,
collection report creation, CD cover printing, file renaming, searching
for name, property, ID3-tag or duplicates and more. The program supports
..mp3, .wav, .vqf, .ogg, .mac and .ape files as well as MPEG Audio,
MPEGplus, WAV, TwinVQ, Ogg Vorbis, Monkey's Audio.

MACCC (link in sig) will create nice CD Covers for your MP3 CDs. It has
lots of features/options specific to MP3 CDs. It's free too.

I go with Cathy. It's better than creating htm playlists in winamp :-)

The newer version is on sourceforge.net.
With neat improvements.

Hey, thanks for the update DAN. For anyone interested, the URL is:

http://mac.sourceforge.net/

I'm going to try it out myself. I used the older version for quite a long
time, but found Cathy light years faster for the cataloging, and
MP3BookHelper better for the tagging and renaming. But I'll give this
latest version a whirl. The old version was good, so the new version can
only be better!

Hi ;)

I usually recommend one directory per album,
one playlist in m3u or b4s format for each album in the
same directory as the tracks, m3u referencing the
files "relatively" (no full path). I name the playlist :
artist - album (year).m3u
Directory name : artist - album (year)
Tracks names : track_number - title.mp3

The application i develop (totally free) supports
this organisation, have a look at http://easyam.free.fr
we're currently testing the beta version, if you're
interested (or someone else) email me ([email protected])
i'll send you to URL to download the application.

I hope this will help,
Oli

Having to e-mail you makes it registerware, not freeware (no offence of
course). What you should do if it truly is freeware is, create a page, or
provide a link on the website, for your beta version.

Which still wouldn't make it "Freeware", but "Betaware", according to a
recent discussion in acf...

Erm sorry i was not aware about this naming conventions ;)

Actually you're right, i'll add a link on the website next week
but i'll notify it's a beta version and bugs can happen !

If i asked the email, it's not to register anyone, i was just to
avoid spreading too many applications if a big bug was found,
and to let a little more time to test.

Easy Album Manager is a real freeware, no registration is required.
