Can anyone recommend me an external storage device, not too expensive, that
offers me some sort of security that not just anyone can plug in to USB and
view contents?

My Girlfriend has one PC in the bedroom. I also have a PC also that is not
in use. I'd like to put that in the living room. I want to save all my data
to the external device, then I'll format and reinstall XP so anyone can use
it.

Most external USB hard disk drives can use several other software
encryption software, for added security. Also, there are several
Internet backup services which have several security options.

I will look up software encryption when I get home.

I can't use internet backup services.. can't trust anyone but me with my
files. :) I have some old artwork I did, hard to find tapes I converted into
mp3, etc.

MP3 should be burnt to DVDs / CDs and multiple copies. Can also do
your other files.

Also, look at USB hard drives. Flash drives can be erase easily with
static electricity.
