Recoloring Excel charts in PowerPoint

Using 2003 apps: I have many, many existing PPT files containing many, many
embedded charts originally generated in Excel. Now a corporate rebranding
requires every chart to be converted to a new color palette.

I know how to change color palettes in both Excel and PowerPoint; however,
when opening embedded charts from PowerPoint in Excel and loading the new
color palette, I get very inconsistent results. Sometimes the charts
completely recolor, sometimes only one or two elements recolor, and sometimes
nothing changes at all.

Tight corporate control means we cannot download any add-ins or use any
third-party software modules.

This is a looming nightmare. Can someone offer useful tips that will
minimize the slide-by-slide intervention required?

I would guess that the reason the recoloring sometimes works and sometimes
doesn't is because of the way the colors were applied in the first place.

may or may not be aware of.
