I have installed a new 120 GB ATA133 Maxtor HD into my P4PE.
In the BIOS Setup the HD is recognized but when trying to boot to
windows, the rectangular POST screen shows all HDs to be "none".

It is possible that I need to flash my bios to recognize a 120 GB HD?

Thanks

Did you partition and format the new drive in Windows XP or 2000?
To do so, you need to go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer
Management/Storage/Disk Management. You should see the new
drive listed. Just right click on it to see the options.

Problem is, he can't boot into windows.

Freddd, there can be 2 scenario's here, but I think you want to
add this 120GB to your existing one. In this case:
Go into the bios and make sure your 'old' drive is the one that
is the bootdrive. I think your 'new' drive has taken control after
you connected it and because there's nothing to boot from, you
get that rectangular.

Yes, partitioned (as primary) and formatted in NTFS in Win2k as you decribed
above.
HD recognized dowb to the model in BIOS Setup, yet appears as "none" in the
rectangular post box, resulting in the "non-system disk..." message.

This 120 GB HD seems to work perfectly fine as a slave.
Unfortunately that's not what I bought it for.
I partitioned it, formatted it, and used Ghost 9.0 to copy my C drive,
a processs I have done countless times without ever having a problem.

When the 120 GB HD is setup as the single master, Bios setup recognizes
it to the extent of identifying the model number.
Yet when booting up it shows "NONE" in the rectangular box.
This contradiction is something I have never seen on any PC.

Today I am going to test this 120GB HD on my other PC which has
a P4P800 in it, for what its worth.

I take it you have checked the jumpers and tried to connect it
with and without a jumper on master? And that you disconnected
the old drive before trying to boot from this one. 2 simular
bootsectors on seperate drives could cause problems.

Yes.

Tried the HD in on my P4P800 PC today with same result. Then I flashed the
BIOS to latest
and it recognized the HD in BIOS Setup AND in POST details.
So now I am thinking maybe it's the disk copy in Ghost 9.0 where I have a
problem.

I still use Ghost 2003 and have had no problems of the sort with that.
I heard about lots of problems with 9.0 and that's why I keep it on the
shelve. 2003 still works for me. I'm currently giving Acronis
TrueImage a good look, because I think nowadays it's a better
application than ghost 9. I'll probably switch to that in the near future.
A simple test to find out if 9.0 is causing the problem, is just to write
a simple bootsector to the drive and find out if it boots properly.
If so, something went wrong with the cloneing of your drive.

I re-cloned using my old Ghost 2002 and the 120 GB HD came out just fine,
boots up and all. Guess the latest isn't always the greatest.
Thanks for the help.
