Two days ago, I exported my files out of Outlook 2000 to a pst file on
my second hard drive. It was expected that the addresses would be
accessed and used when I created a new message. Not to be.

When I loaded MS Office Pro with Outlook 2003 onto my computer. that
is where everything has gone awry.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the addresses recognized by
Outlook. I put the pst file into the same folder as it was in Outlook
2000. That didn't work, so I imported the file from my hard drive
into Outlook, but the instructions are so obtuse that I wasn't sure
which option to choose... so I chose the one that said to use the
Personal Folders. That seemed to work except that it put all of my
subfolders on the top level (instead of being in folder structure like
2000 was). That meant that the folders were now duplicated... two of
everything. So I deleted all of the duplicates and then the addresses
were not recognized again. I tried importing again; it put duplicates
in and still didn't recognize the addresses. Then I tried importing
using the current folder... more duplication and still no recognition.

So I deleted the pst file, reinstalled the program and still I have
duplicate folders with no address recognition.

I can't use the helpline that is listed in the reinstall because it
tells me that there is an error and gives me a page cannot be accessed
message.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, in advance.

Don't overwrite. Don't import.
Just configure Outlook to use your previous PST file.

To use another PST file (such as one from an earlier installation) and set
it to be the default for your current installation of Outlook, you will
first need to know the location and name of the PST file you'd like to use
as your new default. Then use the following directions, depending on version
and mode of Outlook:

- Go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files > Add...
- Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close > OK to exit the
Options dialog
- Go to Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
- Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e-mail to the following
location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current
default Personal Folders file) > Finish
- Exit and Restart Outlook
- You can now close the previous default PST (R-click on that pst folder
while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername> Folders"). If you have
any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your new
default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you close
the old one.
