Reclaiming disk space w/XP Pro

G

I finally upgraded from 2k Pro to XP Pro following a system crash and general
cleanup.

After upgrading I continued to clean many unused and obsolete applications
and items off the drive in order to reclaim space. Following that I
performed a defrag but found I reclaimed very little space. Considering I
tossed gigs into the Recycle bin and then cleared it I expected a substantial
increase of space.

When I run clean disk it also never seems to remove the items I have
selected.

I discovered the 'restore' ditty included with XP but would like to have a
handle on what is retained and for exactly how long. I DO NOT need a default
retention of several weeks -- and I would prefer monitoring system state,
critical files, etc via a scheduled backup without having to allocate a ton
of space for restoration capabilities I don't require.

My disk continues to shrink and I need a means to reclaim space

Suggestions?

For information about the System Restore function in Windows XP and
how to configure it see MVP Bert Kinney's System Restore pages:

Good luck
