Recipient Drop Down List Editing

How do I get rid of entries in the drop down list that appears when I begin
entering a recipient in the "To:" box of a new email? I am taliking about
entries that are NOT in Windows Contacts, but have been manually entered in
the past. For instance, if I enter the letter "s" into the "To:" box, I see
four entries - two of which are contacts, and two of which were previously
entered by me when I sent/forwarded mail. I want to get rid of those in the
list that are NOT contacts. Trying to hit the delete key while they are
selected in the drop down list does not work. I have searched for them in
file contents and in the registry and have not found them. Hope someone can
help. Thanks.

It is stored in a key in the registry.
Unless you are familiar with editing the registry, I would
advise you to ignore the problem for now. Eventually
the bad address will drop off the remembered list.
If you are proficient with registry editing, the pertinent key is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Recently Used Addresses

Gary,

First - thanks for the VERY quick response.

I examined that key. It certainly sounds like where the entries should be.
The data in the key appears very cryptic to me (I am not very experienced in
binary data editing), and I intend to leave it alone. I had hoped to find
more separate keys and/or values that could simply be deleted.

I find this "feature" of Windows Mail to be REALLY stupid. There are other
Windows applications where I can get rid of MRU drop down entries by simply
hitting the delete key when the entry is highlighted. Why not in Windows Mail?

Thanks again.
