Sorry... I meant, how do I get rid of the My Recent Documents feature
entirely, or disable it.

Delete CurrentDatabase_59R.wmdb
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media
Player\CurrentDatabase_59R.wmdb

To not show your most recently used documents on the Start menu
1 Right-click the Start button and then click Properties.
2 On the Start Menu tab, click Start menu and then click Customize.
3 On the Advanced tab, UNSelect the List my most recently opened documents
check box.

Clear document history on exit

Navigate to >>>

Remove the Documents menu from the Start menu

Do not keep history of recently opened documents

Clear history of recently opened documents on exit

We were debating the terminology used by the OP. It has
since emerged that they were seeking help with "recently
viewed documents and not "recently viewed files". The
original question included the phrase "recently viewed files".
