Recently used files list won't stick

I have Word11 installed and have set the recently used files from the
default of 4 to the max of 9. All seems fine until I reboot and then it is
back to 4. I've not checked on other settings, but may have to. Any thoughts
on what is causing/how to fix?

Any time that Options settings don't stick, it may be an indication that you
need to rebuild the Word data key in the Registry (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm for instructions).
First, though, you might want to eliminate any other possible culprits, such
as an add-in that may be changing the setting (I found that was the problem
with one of the settings I couldn't get to "stick"). TweakUI's "paranoia"
setting (which suppresses the display of recently used documents on the
Start menu) is a common cause of the MRU list being lost altogether, as is
using Word as your email editor in Outlook, but if your 9 setting is being
consistently reset to 4, I'd try resetting the Data key; if that doesn't
work, take a hard look at your add-ins.

Suzanne,

Thanks but all of this does not seem to be necessary. Apparently all I had
to do was post the problem here and Word got scared and started acting
correctly. <g>

I tried again to set, save, close word, reboot and this time it stuck. I do
not know why since I've changed it several times in the past w/o success.

Thanks for fixing it for me. <g>

Isn't it amazing what describing a problem out loud will do?
