I have XP Home, IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633

Recently, just entering, i.e., www.msn.com won't browse to the page, I have
to include the protocall: i.e., http://www.msn.com (typical for any url).

Any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem. Unfortunately, even after running Ad Aware
and Spybot, I haven't been able to fix it.

If you have any luck please let me know.

Martin,
Did you scan your system for spyware, then run HijackThis?

No luck yet...

I have the Registry settings as listed in the RepairDefaultPrefix.reg
file at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

I created another user account on my XP home system... this account
the default HTTP:// works, but my account it doesn't.

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoCo
mplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

Martin,

Can you try something for me please?

I have noticed that I can get past this problem by letting my home page load
up, then clicking on a Favorite or a Link and then letting that page load
up. I can the type an address into the address bar by just using the www
prefix.

If I just load up my home page and then type www into the address bar IE
hangs.

Does this work for you or not?

Janice

My last post wasn't quite accurate. You have to select an address from the
drop down menu on the address bar. After that just entering www seems to
work.

Janice

Done all that and more. See my earlier post on the 13th.

I still have the problem despite all logs, including Hijack This showing a
clean system.
