Recent Documents????

Hi,
I cleared my recent document list, through taskbar and stat menu
properties dialog. Now when i open any file, it is not displayed as recent
file. When I check the recent folder, it contains the shortcuts to all my
recent files. Any ideas what has gone wrong??

My windows lost the capability of displaying my last recent files openend
under StartUp->Documents, though the shortcuts are available on the
harddrive under c:\documents and settings\dp\recent
