I have installed both Messengers. I am assuming that regardless of the
Messenger someone else is using (MSN or Windows), if they attempt to
communicate with me, the Messenger that I have running (MSN or Windows) will
"answer." I am also assuming that any combination will work - MSN to Win,
MSN to MSN, Win to Win, Win to MSN. Thanks for your help. I am
communicating with non-computer family members and don't want to confuse
them.

Greetings Bill,

Whichever client you're currently logged into will "answer", you can only be logged into the
same account once (so you can't be logged into both clients using the same account).
However, yes, they are both backwards compatible (with a few exceptions like the "Webcam"
option in MSN Messenger).
