I'm receiving some emails straightaway others are taking upto 24 hours to
come through, any suggestions?

Server problems along the route of the mail, is the most obvious cause,
nothing that you can do about it.
If you select a message then use Ctrl + F3 you will see the route that the
mail took to get to you, reading from the bottom up should show you at what
point the mail was delayed?
