Receiving E-mail

I have a Vista Business Operating System and am using Windows Mail -
Receiving e-mails seems sporatic at best. Sometimes I get them as soon as
they are sent. Other times I don't get them until I restart my laptop.

Why?

Do you have Windows Mail open?
How often is it set to check email?
Is the account set to be included in checks?

I keep Windows Mail Open while operating the system.
I have the system set to check every 1 minute for new mail
The account is set to be included

Change the checking to every ten minutes. 1 minute is way too often.

Try changing the time interval to check mail to every 10 minutes. Many
ISP's will not allow checking without waiting at least 10 minutes. It's
a spam/security setting on the mail server. You could check with your
ISP to be sure but it's easy enough to change and test.
