Your right! By installing the update, you can no longer
open pictures or files which contain the .exe format.
Microsoft has decided for us that virus are typically
spread using this format and has modified Outlook Express
so it can no longer be subject to accepting possible
viruses. Unfortunately there is no backing out of this
secruity update other than reformatting the hard drive
and not downloading the update the second time around. If
you are like me and you had several software applications
that relied upon using .exe devices to send things like
slideshows via emails, you are just hosed. You can still
insert photos in applications such as Microsoft Word, but
you can no longer use attachents unless your computer has
not had the update installed.

Rubbish Retrop

You can adjust the security settings within Outlook Express.

Tools/Options/Security - uncheck "Do not allow attachments to be saved or
opened which could potentially be a virus"

"Your" an idiot. Others have posted the correct
answer, but if you want to send executables, what's to
stop you from sending the files without the .exe extension,
and telling the recipients to add it back on?

You've never even read OE's Help files, then, have you. You're
completely wrong.
