Receiving a Lot of Spam

I am using windows live mail desktop beta client, but, I am receiving a
whole lot more spam, than on the regular web based client, why is that?

also, the add sender to the block sender's list is greyed out.

The second item is a bug. The same amount of spam is getting to your account,
the filtering on WLMD is not up to snuff.
