Unfortunately, there are address-harvesters that continually scan
newsgroups as well as web sites for e-mail addresses to send spam to.
You can eliminate or minimize this by using a bogus e-mail address for
posting or by "munging" the e-mail address you post from -- that is,
inserting text or transforming the address in some way so as to make it
invalid. For example, you'll see that the from-address of this message
has NO SPAM inserted in it. That's easy enough for a human to figure
out how to reply, but not for a spambot. (Actually, I'm surprised they
haven't programmed that variation into their parsers yet, but so far I'm
not getting spam in response to my posts.)
