received email with attachment that won't open

Can anyone help? I received an email that had an
attachement named attachment(0). It was supposed to be 2
family pictures. It is viewed as ascii text only. I am
using outlook in Office XP professional. I have tried
both outlook and outlook express. The sender can send
the email to themselves and view the pictures.

It's a rather irritating 'feature' of Outlook XP.
