John

I have a secondary DC that has been giving me errors. I'm
planning to rebuild it. Is there anything I need to take
into consideration before I do this? It's going to have
the same name and IP and going to be a DC again. Should I
demote it first??

Thanks

Here are the basics.

1) make sure that FSMO roles are on the working server
2) Make sure your GC is on the working server.
3) Demote the non-working DC
4) Rebuild Server (reload OS or whatever you intended to do)
5) Promote server to DC and let replication take place
6) Redistribute the FSMO roles accordingly

If you can not successfully demote you will have to read this article

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216498

Hope this helps

The only thing that I would add is the following. See in-line...

via DCPROMO

make sure to give it a bit of time to replicate and then check DNS to make
sure that all of the records pointing to the demoted server have been
removed. I would also go into Active Directory Sites and Services MMC and
make sure that the demoted Server is not there.
