reboots when shutdown

Hi -

I've seen this a few times with cable modems talking to
USB network adapters. Here's whatcha do -

Right-click "My Computer" and select Properties -->
Advanced and then hit the "Settings" button
under "Startup and Recovery". Uncheck the box that
says "Automatically restart" and then click OK.

What's happening is your machine is throwing a STOP error
(bluescreening) on shutdown and since Windows XP is set
to reboot after that kind of error what you're seeing is
the reboot. It happens fast enough that the bluescreen
isn't displayed.

The few times I've seen this problem it's been with
Linksys cable modems that plug into a USB port.
Reinstalling the driver for the cable modem has solved
the problem the few times I've seen it.

good luck!
