My computer has an intermitant problem of rebooting by itself. I might be in
the middle of surfing the web or replying to email or anything. It just
reboots. Any suggestions?

First disable the automatic restart so you can get the Stop Error (blue
screen).

System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings and under System Failure
uncheck "Automatically Restart".

Once you have the Stop Error, you can research it here:

Or post back for more help.

That is, if it IS, in fact, rebooting with a 'Blue Screen' (BSOD) error.
The OP simply states that the machine is rebooting without apparent cause.

There you should look into your 'Scheduled Tasks' folder to see if anything
is scheduling a reboot. Also type "at" in a 'Command Prompt' window
(dos-box) to see if anything is scheduled there.

Failing that, download and run MalwareBytes antivirus / antimalware program
on your PC to check that this is not the result of an invasion by some
malicious software.

MalwareBytes can be downloaded at:

Heat. Maybe.

I did what you said and disabled the autorestart. Now I get the BSOD once a
day. Basicly it says " Beginning dump of physical memory"
Technical info is Stop: 0x0000000A (0x8DEF1008, 0x00000002, 0x00000001,
0x8052390d).
It talks about new devices or programs. I instales 2 more gig of ram for a
total of 4 gig about 2 or 3 months ago. I also have Trend Micro installed as
my virus protection. I memtion this because it came up with something that
said the latest update could be bad bacuse of what it saw. This came up
after I rebooted. It updates itself DAILY. I nstalled it on the 10th of
Jan. 09. I have installed some store bought games like Blazing Angels 2 from
Ubisoft and some demos from the web from places like Gameplanet and some
other reputable sights. By the way the the 2 gigs of ram are different
brands if that means any thing. I guess I could remove the newest 2 gig and
see what happens. Should I recheck the auto restart? Any Ideas? Thanks

I would remove the RAM and see if that solves the problem. If it does, then
either you bought the wrong RAM and/or it is defective or it isn't in the
correct configuration for your motherboard.

Having researched your Stop Error Report I found that there are similar
matching reports in Google. Not over many. All parameters match except
parameter 1.

My feeling is that it is software added by you.

The Stop Error Report will be most likely logged in Event Viewer. Look
back through the System log until you find the first occurrence of the
error. Then try to match the date to a particular item of software you
have added. Shop bought games can cause problems because bugs in CD's do
not get fixed. They can also replace drivers with older versions of the
same driver.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Have you installed any registry cleaners or optimisers? These can be a
cause of this type of problem.

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

What is your exact version of Trend Micro?

Here is a list of the warnings and errors. They start on 3/11/09 with a
warning called w32time. The last warning was 6/4/09 called browser. With
numerous warnings and errors inbetween. All concern browser, w32time, system
error, sidebyside, user32, server, cdrom, mrxsmb, dcom, netbt, dhcp. And
service control manager error a bunch of times on 5/16 to 5/11 I would post
the file that has them all but the file will not copy to the post. The Trend
Micro program version is17.1.1250. The engine version is 8.913.1006. The
pattern version is 6.171.50. I hope some of this helps. Someone else
mentioned removing the newest 2 gig (1 gig sticks) they are pc6400 with 800
FSB. but I will not be able to do that untill Sunday. I start alot of 14
hour shifts for a few days. Thanks alot.

You have misundertood my suggestion.

When did the first Stop Error (Blue Screen of Death) occur? You are
looking for reports similar to this one. Look for the number 1001 in the
Event column.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 5/17/2007
Time: 10:41:55 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ash
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was:
0x1000000a (0x8DEF1008, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8052390d).

When you have the date ( and time ) of the earliest report think
carefully about what software you installed a day or so previously.

I ran the event viewer. I have lots of 1001 events. I have numerous errors
for application error and had 9 in a row from 5/3/ to 5/9/09. I have alot of
application error or application hang in groups of 8 and 10 in a row. I have
16 .net runtime errors on 10 Mar 09. I am really getting lost in this stuff.
One thing I have added that I forgot about was a 1TB external Phanton drive
by Gforce to backup once a week. But I was having the problem before that.

cupton50

Are the events in Event Viewer sorted in in date order? If not you can
sort into date order by clicking on the Date header over the column of
dates. Scroll the list until the you find the oldest 1001 Event. As long
as there is a period of days before the oldest entry where there are no
1001 entries you will have ascertained when the change was made that is
causing your problem.

Are you leaving the external drive connected? Do the errors stop if you
disconnect the external drive?
