Hi, whenever I turn my stystem off it goes as far as Windows is closing, but
stays at that screen and does not turn off, same when i do updates and system
needs to reboot, it just stays at ''windows is closing'' for hours. any ideas
?? I recently had to do a system restore

Hi Ann,

You need to isolate what is causing it to hang. Before you shut down, hit
ctrl+shift+escape and make sure nothing is running on the applications tab.
Then go to the processes tab and kill 4 or 5 of the entries after making
note of the names. Then try to shutdown. Does it still hang? If so, then you
haven't found the right one yet. Continue until you find the one causing the
problem. Windows will not allow you to kill a system process, so don't worry
about screwing anything up.

Another approach is to run msconfig and put the system in diagnostic mode.
Then restart the machine, see if it is still a problem after the reboot. If
not, then it is one of the startup load entries that is running in resident
memory that is causing the problem. Killing it from the startup group would
be the way to resolve it.
